To kick off our opening ceremony we will have our Best of Disney" Parade! It will be a combination of floats from
parades throughout the years that WDW had - Main St. Electric, Spectromagic, Stars and Motor Cars, Tapestry of Nations, Mickey's
Jammin Jungle Parade, Share a Dream Come True. BUT, instead of just Disney characters on all the floats, the athletes from
all the upcoming events join them on the floats and they are announced as the floats pass the main stage at the Castle. Spectators
on the parade routes will be given flags for the countries that they are supporting to wave as the floats pass by. On top
of the castle, 4 flags will wave - the US flag, and the flags from France, China and Japan.
We welcome veteran group The Beach Boys to the Walt-lympian Opening Ceremony. They will be
performing songs dedicated to our Walt-lympians - "I Get Around" to our Segway riders, "Surfin' Safari" to our AK Safari truck
drivers, "Dance, Dance, Dance" for our dance-athon Walt-lympians, and "Fun, Fun, Fun" dedicated to all Walt-lympians.
They will later join Duran Duran and Clay Aiken for a finale of barber shop quartet songs...ok, maybe
not quartet...what DO you call a group of 10 people singing? Well, you get the idea...
1980's group Duran Duran will dedicate "Hungry Like the Wolf", "Reflex" and "Wild Boys" to
all the Walt-lypians as they go for the gold. They toyed with the idea of singing "A View to a Kill", but thought that
might be a little too hostile for visiting nations trying to promote peace during the games. They will later join the
Beach Boys and Clay Aiken in a performance of barber shop quartet songs.
Clay Aiken will take the stage in front of Cinderella's Castle
for the Walt-lympics Opening Ceremony. He'll be singing a medley of his own songs, including "This Is the Night", and
will join the Beach Boys and Duran Duran in a performance of such barber shop quartet hits as "Sweet Adoline", "By the Light
of the Silvery Moon", "Oh Susanna", and more!
What opening ceremony would be complete
without famous DISers carrying the torch - EsmereldaX enters the front gate, pulling Monty Dog & Dodger in a
small lime green wagon; she is met at the bakery by Webmaster Alex, who has a big envelope with a black dot,
in addition to the torch! Mommytotwo, who loves exchanges of all kinds, is next, and will exchange the torch with
Pop Daddy. What's he wearing on his shirt? "Long Ceremony"!! Pop Daddy disappears inside the castle - how
will the torch be lit? There, up in the sky, it's...Sideshow Bob, flying the same path that Tinkerbell takes each
night, and he lights the torch shaped like Walt's head, which in turn sets off the fireworks over the castle.
